About City

Vienna, the capital of Austria is the 7th largest city of Austria and also its economic and cultural centre. The city is having an area of 414.65 square kilometres and with a population of 18,26,030. Vienna is known as “The city of dreams”. The city lies in the east of Austria and is close to the borders of the Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic.  The city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2001. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2005 analysis “The city of music” ranked first among the world’s 127 most liveable cities. The UN-Habitat has classified Vienna as being the most prosperous city in the world in 2012/2013. Between 2005 and 2010, Vienna was the world's number-one destination for international congresses and conventions. Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPEC.
 
Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. In the MuseumsQuartier district, historic and contemporary buildings display works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and other artists.
