About City
Frankfurt was one of the most significant cities of the Holy Roman Empire and the Free City of Frankfurt for nearly five centuries. When the empire fell apart in 1806, Frankfurt lost its sovereignty; it regained it in 1815; and it lost it again in 1866 when it was annexed (though neutral) by the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1945, it has been a part of the Hesse state. Frankfurt has a diversified population in terms of culture, ethnicity, and religion, with the majority of its young people and half of the population having immigrant ancestry. The population is made up of 25% foreigners, many of them are expatriates.
Frankfurt had the sixth-highest number of exceptionally high-net-worth residents in 2015 with 1909 of them living there. Frankfurt is the 14th wealthiest city in the world as of 2017.According to GaWC, Frankfurt is a "alpha world city," a centre of trade, culture, education, tourism, and transportation on a global scale. Many multinational and European corporate headquarters are located there. Frankfurt Airport is also the busiest in Germany, one of the busiest in Europe, has the most direct flights worldwide, and serves as the main hub for Lufthansa, Germany's flag carrier.
